Man Made Mountains

A collaborative art piece with photographer Bob Mitchell documenting photographic art installations within the north Wales slate industry.

The Project

Fourth Dimension were brought onto photographer Bob Mitchell’s project Man Made Mountains. He had been documenting the slate industry in north Wales since 2010. Shooting on a 5×4 camera, which gave him the option to print huge. This is where his idea came to not just show the images in a gallery space but to paste them back into their natural environment, on the rock face of the mountains and in the caverns of slate mines. We were then commissioned to co-create a short film that would show the process of the pastings using time lapse as well as a brief history of the area and the industry.

This project was supported by:

Arts Council Wales, Gwynedd Council, Snowdonia National Park, The National Slate Museum, Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Tudor Lodge – Porthmadog.

The Client

“Working with the team at Fourth Dimension on my project ‘Man-Made Mountains’ was a pleasure. The nature of the project meant that it was physically demanding in difficult working conditions as well as long working hours.  The guys there rose to every challenge and produced a beautiful piece of work. “
